Modern Sewing Pattern with Romance
Meet the Modern Juliet Sleeve Top Pattern from Ellie and Mac Patterns!
At first glance is a lovely knit tee shirt pattern, but look a bit closer and everyone will notice that cute gathered sleeve detail.
Sewing Pattern Options
Here is the line drawing from the Ellie and Mac Website with all the options for this modern top sewing pattern:
If you analyze the drawings above you’ll notice that you can choose to make:
- A solid or two paneled back
- Short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, or long sleeves
- Crew Neck or Scoop Neck
Fabric Choice
I used Double Brushed Polyester (aka DBP) for both my tops. You could also use a modal, rayon spandex, stretchy cotton spandex, ribbed knit, or any fabric with good 4-way stretch.
The gathered top sleeve is more obvious when you use a solid fabric, but it’s also cute if you use a print!

As seen above, the back has two options, either a regular back bodice without a seam. Or, a seamed back bodice with a seam at the center back.
You might ask, why would you want a seam at the center back? It just gives a tighter fit while conforming to the curves of the body. And it’s especially helpful if you or your model has a sway back.
There’s also a short sleeve version. I need to make it for Spring!
